What does “Mio” mean?
In Japanese, “Mio” (澪) refers to a safe passage in the water, a gentle channel that guides boats along the right path.
For me, Mio is that same idea but in daily life: a small, calm ritual that helps you navigate the day with a bit more intention, softness, and joy.
Mio Matcha was born from this meaning a brand built around tiny moments that guide you back to yourself, one cup at a time. 🌱
Family trips, tea... and the beginning of Mio Matcha
Mio Matcha started on long family trips.
Japan (and later South Korea) felt so far from home: early flights, tired legs, full days of walking, and that kind of jet lag that makes time feel blurry. And yet… it was breathtaking. The streets, the little shops, the quiet moments, everything felt like a film.
We went in autumn/winter, when the air was crisp and the days could feel a little cold. And honestly? Tea was what carried us. Matcha and warm cups of tea became our small comfort: something that gave us energy, slowed us down, and warmed the heart after long days outside.
Those memories, discovering new places with my family, with my siblings right there beside me, are a huge part of why this project exists.
Mio Matcha is, in many ways, a love letter to those trips… and to the culture that made even the simplest moments feel meaningful. 🍵
A little about me
Hi, I’m Madalena, the founder of Mio Matcha.
I’m building this as a small, woman-founded project inspired by Japanese tea culture, the calm rituals, the care in the details, and the idea that everyday moments can feel special.
Outside of Mio Matcha, I’m a mix of cozy and restless: I play the violin, I love to read and paint, and I’m always chasing the next adventure, travelling, going to concerts, and sometimes choosing a little discomfort on purpose, just to feel more alive.
And after those trips, something clicked. I came home with the need and the energy to create something of my own, built from the love I found in those simple rituals and beautiful details. That’s where Mio Matcha began, with my siblings, family, and closest friends supporting and cheering me on as I turned that feeling into something real.
